First time GB axe purchase and I am impressed. Magnificent quality. Bought this primarily for splitting already split firewood into smaller pieces and kindling for which it is superb. Buy the larger one if you are splitting bigger rounds.

Really a good worker. Split firewood easily. Great materials, good design. The only disadvantage I find is the size, for me it is big for one hand use and small for use with two hands.

What an axe, it powers through 7x14 inch logs one-handed if you chock it up the handle a bit. The bigger stuff is a breeze, two-handed. Delivery was spot on, with loads of information. This is the second (GB) axe I've bought from Woodlore over the years, both great purchases.

It was bought as a birthday present for my husband and he is thoroughly delighted with the axe. He uses it for chopping kindling and says it is most effective.

When using the small splitting axe it is possible to detect the knowledge of the axe's smith. The fine weight distribution between head and handle enables you to swing it evenly. The good length of the handle allows you to work at a safe distance from the chopping block. The symmetry incorporated into the blade enables it to prize apart wood along the grain. I found that I could use the small splitting axe to split logs efficiently using a fast action. I also noticed that by using a slower motion the weight, sharpness, and slender shape of the blade lended the small splitting axe to the task of completing splits in large sections of tree limb that had been found already with a split in it. This was possible by resting the sections on a chopping block and cutting along the split from a number of angles and then using the blade to carefully prize the two sides of the limb apart. I also found I could use the small splitting axe in the manner of a carpenter's axe by whittling away at the bark thus showing the wood's qualities.
