Lovely splitting wedge. Feels lovely in the hand. Quite expensive, but it's an excellent tool that will out live me! The only slight gripe, is the sheath is loose. It acts as protection for storage but does not hold in place very well. After liaising with Woodlore, this is the same on all the wedges.
Thankyou, incidentally, for excellent customer service from Woodlore and prompt delivery of wedge and replies to my emails.

Thank you.

I run a tree company and when cutting up a large trunk into rings we split them into quarters so they can be lifted on the truck. I use a 14 lb sledge hammer. So far no ring unsplittable at usual 9 inch thickness. This saves fuel, less noise and saw dust to clear up. Straight out of the parcel shaved a section of my arm as expected from Gransfors Bruks.

Prior to buying these (I have two), I used hardwood wedges to split large logs, which worked eventually, though they often broke or had to be re-shaped. The Gransfors wedges make splitting SO much easier, and I can tackle much larger pieces of wood without having to use power tools (which I find very satisfying). Keep the edge sharp and give the wedge a decent blow and you'll process even large pieces of wood in no time!

Great to compliment the Splitting Maul. Goes hand in hand with it.

Exquisite design, excellent for spliting wood. Its size and weight make it suitable for work or store. Very sharp. I used it with a 3 kg sledgehammer to split pieces of eucalyptus and acacia trees, which is very hard, and the results were fantastic.

Solid professional kit, and now in regular use splitting all those twisted grain knuckles that are back-breaking, even with a decent maul. Thank you Gransfors and Woodlore, great service.

This is an excellent piece of equipment and accompanies the'Gransfors Splitting Maul'. It makes splitting lengths of wood up to one meter much more easier than just using a traditional straight wedge. The twist in the body between the blade and the head ensures an gradually increasing pressure action on the wood each time the wedge is hit. On the third or fourth hit you can hear the wood creaking, splitting and tearing as the log splits seconds after your last strike. The'Splitting Maul' blade end can then be used to slice through any final resistance to part the halves. If you have enough cash spare buy a second and you can do some serious work. A professional tool at a sensible price.
