The offset design seen here is used to anchor the awls firmly in their handles, and was common among those found at British-era sites in Canada.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese Awls were used extensively during the Woodlore Birch Bark Canoe course in 2013, in which a traditional Canadian canoe was built from natural materials. They are also used for sewing heavy materials, such as leather or canvas.
