Excellent

I normally use Light my Fire but I have never had a problem with RM so thought these would be worth a punt. In short the rod itself is on a par with LMF, works very well! RM would get better off just selling the rod as the striker supplied is so poor it detracts from an otherwise excellent product. I don't use my knife so I had to sort out the striker afterwards and of course the cord needs replacing. So, I would recommend this product highly and will happily buy from RM again.

Brilliant firestick and striker. Best I've owned. The metal is a little tricky to hold and has rather square corners which don't sit in the hand super comfortably but I bought one for my friend's daughter who practiced diligently with it and was successful many times. Highly recommend.

I've used many different types of fire steels over the years but this is still the best one in my opinion

C
Christopher

Still the best firestick. Not too big, not too small, and really soft so it generates a huge spark trail. Have tried many others and returned to the classic!

I've been using these for over 20 years and they never fail me. I don't use any other Ferro Rod. Awesome thanks

Fine bit of kit! The fire stick works like a charm. Thank you.

This is my first time using a fire stick and it is working very well.

I used one of these on the Fundamental Bushcraft course and it became a trustworthy, reliable friend. I wanted to get one as a souvenir of my adventure too because it has the logo on it. There are many ferro rod options out there and if the Woodlore team trust this one then it's a go. Cheaper ones might have a ferro outer layer and a core made from something else. Let the buyer beware. The Woodlore shop is also surprisingly competitively priced against Amazon and the like. Thank you Woodlore team!

Great firelighter, used many times, still going strong.

Very light and small enough to carry in your pocket or top of rucksack, easy striking action.

Well made product, however found it difficult to create sparks with the metal scraper supplied. This was partly due to the rod coating, which seemed to initially inhibit spark formation. Hence three stars for the product as supplied. However, using an old hacksaw blade as a scraper gave much better results and the spark formation vastly improved as the rod coating was worn away, so currently would give five stars.

Superb, high quality fire steel. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Easy to use with plenty of sparks!

Great product. Highly recommended!

The rod works very well, definitely akin to the market leaders. I'm less impressed with the striker though as it doesn't work as well as the strikers that come with rival products.

A focused flow of sparks. Worked perfectly as expected.

This is the second Ray Mears Fire stick I have purchased, to finally replace my first one which lasted about 8 years of service! That's now a stump so I decided to treat myself to a new one.
Best fire stick out there for your money I think. Decent thickness and throws a very good mount of sparks. If used properly they last a very long time. Never lets me down. Have used it all over the world.
I found the striker (which I prefer to use instead of the back of my knife blade) a little poor so I replaced it with a slightly serrated one. Perhaps a good idea would be for Woodlore to adapt the striker, with one edge being straight and the other slightly serrated, just to give the option. Just an idea.
Either way, it's a great fire stick and I'd recommend it to anyone deliberating over which one to buy.
As always, super swift dispatch and delivery from the Woodlore team. Here's to another 8 years of fire making.

Bought as a back up to my large fero rod. This one sits nicely on belt sheath as the other is too big. Only used a couple of times at the time of writing this, but it work flawlessly and got the fire started with little effort.

A solid fire stick. I switched out the striker to a sturdier piece, but other than that it went immediately into hard use and is standing up well.

Great little fire stick set up. Very easy to use and a good amount of hot sparks discharged per strike. I split the items and relocated them onto a neck cord set up that I made on a recent exercise overseas. Essential to have close by at all time. A very practical, useful and cost effective item to have as part of your everyday camping/bush equipment.

This is an excellent product.

Superb fire stick. Absolutely an essential item for any budding bushman.

High quality ferro rod. Throws good hot sparks.

I bought the Ray Mears fire stick as I had lost one from a weekend course with Ray a few years ago. It works very well, gives a good shower of sparks and with the correct tinder it starts a fire at no time at all. I would recommend one, the only disadvantage found is the small steel that it comes with is a bit to small and the edges are sharp so watch your fingers or use gloves. To get around this I use the back of my knife blade and find that works much better.
A great fire stick.

Took a while to get the hang of it but works extremely well.

This is the only product from many years buying from wood lore that I have been disappointed with. I have other fire sticks which easily produce spark, enabling fires to be lighted easily. I bought these for my two boys but unfortunately we had to set them to the side and use an old fire stick to light the fire. The sticks themselves appear too hard. I will give continue to give them a go though.

Excellent bit of kit. Used often and have had no issues. Would recommend.

Works great. Nice and thick. Be warned it pits and spalls in tropical climates. They all do so there is no fault with this product.

I have trouble with the slice of metal that came with the product to make sparks. It maybe I don't have the knack just yet. Using a knife with it works a treat. The handle doesn't really add much to it. Next time I would get from yourselves just the fire stick. with no handle. I do like the product, despite what seems like a negative review.

Lights my fires still since 2015.
