The Ray Mears Leather Small Forest Axe Sheath has been developed specifically for use with the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe.
This hard-wearing sheath slides onto the axe head from underneath and a heavy leather welt holds it in position safely. The flap fastens over the top with a neat brass Sam Browne stud holding the axe securely in its sheath.
With no strap to stretch or get tangled up, this design fits the axe easily and is compact enough to pop in your pocket when not in use.
All of our leather and canvas goods are hand-made by Woodlore's resident leather worker Becky Brewster, a craftswoman with decades of experience. The leather used in this product is vegetable tanned with full, natural grain and hand-dyed in house to the unique Woodlore rich brown colour. The edges are a burnished dark brown with a traditional crease line. Careful selection of materials and accuracy of construction negate the need for metal rivets; stitching is by hand using a rot-proof braided and waxed polyester thread. The Ray Mears 'Snowshoe' logo is discreetly embossed on the lower corner at the front.
Although this sheath is specifically designed to fit the profile of the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe it may fit other brands of axes too. The internal measurements are as follows:
- 7.5 cm at cutting edge
- 6 cm at top folded edge
- 5.5 cm at bottom edge
- 5 cm at opening slot
