I ordered this book after watching the TV series recently on YouTube. I was fascinated and really pleased to see this book was available. Communications were great and the book arrived really quickly. The book itself is a treasure. I'm sure I'll use it for many years to come as I explore the bounties our countryside has to offer.

I bought this beautiful book for my son-in-law as a birthday gift. He is a chef by profession and is quite used to dressing his own game in the field. He is broadening his repertoire and loves foraging and inventing new dishes from his finds. This was a perfect gift. Thank you Ray, I will definitely be purchasing more lovely books from your range.

My husband loves this as he's an avid Ray Mears fan. With this being signed it made the perfect gift.

Great book and similar price to other retailers but this is a signed copy. Ray is a master of his craft and I am an avid reader and also enjoying his other works.

Purchased this for my grandson who loves foraging and likes to explain all the plants and fungi we see on our wood walks.
He will love the book and the fact that it is signed by Ray Mears.
Recommended.

A fascinating book. It's a little different to what I was expecting, but I am very glad I bought it. The first 80 pages or so are focused on the historical background - what our ancestors ate both in the UK and other countries and the habits of hunter gatherers. Different but fascinating.

The second half of the book is a list of edible plants by product family. Good descriptions - though it's a relatively small paperback book and the pictures are good if you know roughly what you are looking for. For some of the plants I think additional help would be needed before eating!

This is an interesting book as, in addition to providing information on how to prepare and eat some of the many 'wild' foods offered by nature's larder, Ray and his co-contributors give us glimpses of our origins; describing how nature's powerful forces affected our development as a species, and how we adapted to the many difficult challenges we faced in days past. It isn't a complete encyclopaedia of every wild food we could theoretically eat, and is more a sort of overview and guide as to how to think about living off the land. There are one or two small bits of information that could be updated during a future revision, including for example, the botanical classification of the horse's hoof fungus. This is described as Fomes fomentarius, though it was reclassified and renamed about 30 years ago, as Heterobasidion annosum, due to observations made on its reproductive biology.

As a countryman at heart, who enjoys too, the many excitements of urban life, I think Ray provides a very approachable book to a diverse range of potential readers, 'demystifying' nature whilst at the same time, revering it. A very enjoyable and informative read which helps keep ancient foraging practises alive and makes them relevant to today's world.

As a chef, the only thing that comes before my love of the outdoors is my love for food and to make those around me happy by providing not only nourishment but joy and excitement for food. Wild Food was a captivating show and to now have my hands on the bound version will allow me to combine my passions and pass on not only food knowledge but the knowledge of how to find it, care for it, and serve it safely when out and about.

I bought this for myself as I've developed a deeper interest in bushcraft and associated subjects since my Fundamental Bushcraft Course. I'm interested in looking at how, where and when different types of wild food can be obtained. Not just for consumption now but when out walking and mooching around when I'm out. I find the book an easy read and very informative on the subject. After all it's written by two of the best people to consult with about it! I have not yet taken the book out as a field guide, but I'm reading it at home and then going out exploring to try to find and identify certain plants etc. I find it ideal for this way of educating myself. I will be taking it with me though as I wander further afield as I progress and don't anticipate any problems with carrying it. I don't think it's the sort of thing I'd buy unless I was interested in bushcraft in general as the history of where and how food developed is covered in greater detail in other books. That's not to detract from this one though, it's just not for general reading in my opinion. But if you want to learn from it as a text book, as I do, then it's ideal.

Brillient. Such an eye opener to our beginnings and development. The book manages to pull the reader into those ancient times. We really get a sense of being physically, cognitively and emotionally related to our own ancestors. We feel their learning process is our learning process. Packed full essential bushcraft information and knowledge.

This is essential reading for any Outdoors person. I thought I knew quite a bit about which plants that were edible and which weren't but this book has really opened my eyes. Oh, and the autographed fly leaf just makes it that extra bit special to take out in the woods.

The book "Wild Food" is a practical tool for anyone with an interest for the lost knowledge of the natural resources in our environment. The beautiful illustrations are very helpful for understanding better the very complex world of the multiple varieties of plants.

Like the TV series, a lovely 2-hander of Ray and Douglas. Amazing photos and fascinating (social?) history, together with enough detail to try for yourself. Will keep outdoors folk busily quiet indoors for a while, and represents very good value for money. Absolutely NOT a coffee table book!

I want to take this opportunity to thank Ray and Gordon for writing Wild Food. My best friend Gerard gave the book for my fortieth birthday almost three years ago.
In the front of the book he wrote: "After 20 years Fast Food in the Ardennes it is now time for the real thing." What an asset this book. Truly a gift from a friend. At first I thought that only plants that grow in England would be the subject of this book, but while studying the book and the plants therein I found out that most of them also grow on the European continent and far beyond. This book has clearly also has its value to bushcrafters that do not live in the United Kingdom.

After several weeks of studying and reading I noticed that I began to recognize families of plants and individual plants and that I paid more attention to the things that were growing around me. It is clear to me that I am a student of Woodlore for life as I will continue to learn and discover about Wild Foods and Bushcraft.

The true bush crafter for that matter will never stop learning. The Wild Food DVD is an asset on its own and I watch it regularly. It is a way to make the words of the book come to life. And see different techniques of gathering and processing firsthand. It's nice to Ray and Gordon in their role as hunter-gatherers and see them working together.

Ray and Gordon, and thanks again for writing this master piece, it has changed my view on my surroundings forever.

I've watched the Wild Food series time and time again, it's one of my favourites. Ray and Gordon are legends in their own fields. It's nice to have a hard copy of the book to refer to. Thank you to Woodlore for the good service.
