This is a very good quality compass. I would not consider myself a beginner in navigating and have found over the years that this type of compass suits my needs, walking and observing my surroundings. I purchased this compass to replace an old Swedish made Silva I have.
It is very similar. I like the large magnifier, 8cm Base scale and red markings. And it's not made in China.
The scales around the edge are 1:25000. 1:50000 and cms (8cm). When possible I use the Harvey
BMC 1:40000 Scale so the cm scale is fine to help with distance . This compass also has course plotting. The detachable lanyard clip is a nice idea.
It has all you need to navigate at a good price.
As always, thankyou Woodlore for the next day delivery and a good price.
Adrian.
