It is with deep regret that Woodlore must pass on this sad and tragic news:
“Yesterday morning I received the news that Stephen Wade Cox had passed away. I speak for all the team when I say that we were profoundly upset by such an unexpected tragedy. Over the past eight years we had come to recognise his astonishing and ever growing talent as a knife maker. A perfectionist and thorough professional, he was a joy to work with. Throughout this year I had worked very closely with him in the development of the Woodlore Knife Pro. This provided me the opportunity to know him better. There was much to admire in Stephen, he was calm, cheerful, thoughtful and a reliable man who loved his children. As a professional he was incredibly skilful but also humble, always at pains to honour the craftsmanship of the other knife makers who had inspired him. In his passing, Great Britain has lost one of the Worlds most talented knife makers.
Stephen will be a sorely missed member of the Woodlore Team. He last visited us just a few days ago when he had been looking forward to a holiday, full of joy and happiness. This is how I shall always remember him; smiling, happy and certain in the knowledge that his talents were fully appreciated.” - Ray Mears

Honoured to own a SWC/ Ray Mears knife. Will be a treasured (but well-used!) knife. Condolences to his family.
Just wanted to say how upset I was to hear this awful news. I had met with Stephen on several occasions and always enjoyed his company. As a knife maker he will be sorely missed but as a person, the loss will be far greater.
My deepest condolences to his family.
Words can not express Stephen as a Dedicated family man, master of his trade and to many a friend. I am lucky to have spent some time with Stephen and some of his many friends and his family and as it is for me i know i speak for every one when i say “a life time would not be enough time, as Stephen was a man of many levels and talented beyond most peoples dreams”.
My family and I send our love, condolences and want Stephens family and closest friends to know our thoughts are with them all.
Finally to Stephen, your kindness, cups of tea, advice, helpfulness, attempts at getting a time on food delivery (knife club thing), poems, and new but never forgotten friendship will always make me smile and i was blessed to have known you, Rest In Peace.

Very sad news indeed. True craftsman, finished lovely knifes and blanks! I thought it was a real nice touch on his latest knife being numbered. Something satisfying about knowing when your knife is made. Rip to one of the best knife makers around
