“Home is where the heart is,” as they say, and Woodlore’s heart has always been within the wild places of this world. It’s important to discover how to make them a home from home.
For generations, humans have strongly relied on camp craft skills to prosper in the outdoors, and it only feels right to continue to teach this essential knowledge, even in the modern day. Camp craft is about more than just creating shelters and lighting fires, it’s about creating security and a sense of belonging in nature.
The Camp Craft course is a seven-day immersive experience that teaches you how to establish an essential base camp. It’s perfect for people who want to expand on their bushcraft knowledge and slow down to enjoy the basics of the landscapes we live amongst.
No matter if you are adventuring deep into remote settings or are simply seeking to better connect with your surroundings off the beaten track, confidence in camp craft allows you to work with what’s around and remove yourself from the distractions of everyday life. Discover the art self-reliance and put your practical skills to good use.
Across the week, you will learn how to use a range of key tools such as axes and knives. With expert teaching, you will gain the skills to use them safely and to utilise wood for different base camp activities. You’ll also be taught to fell trees responsibly and look after the environment around you. Other activities also include shelter building and fire management.
At Woodlore, we believe that camp craft is the core of bushcraft. It’s a place to cook and rest for the days ahead. It’s also a place of welcome and warmth which is a point of true human connection when you’re on your long expeditions or even just weekend camping trips. You’ll quickly develop the ability to make good, quick decisions and to travel safely. The more you prioritise your base camp setup and its efficiency, the less effort will be required throughout your trip to rebuild or maintain it.
Learn how timeless camp craft skills can transform the way you experience the outdoors. By the end of the week, you’ll be equipped with the confidence and knowledge to travel further afield and will truly feel at one with nature.
Come and join us in our home and learn how to live well in wild places.
This course starts at 17:30 on Sunday and will finish at 13:00 on Saturday.

FAQs
Will there be showers and toilets available?
We do not have toilet and shower blocks at our course sites, preferring to use more simple and natural facilities. The toilet is simply a trench dug into the ground in a secluded spot, just like you would use when on a trip in the wilderness. We provide a container with toilet paper, hand gel and matches. This is a hygienic, easy and practical method. If you would like to have a shower, we have a canvas bag shower in a private area and a bucket for heating water over the fire. You may find it useful to bring some flip flops or similar to avoid getting your feet dirty while showering.
The weather forecast isn’t looking good for the week ahead, will the course still take place?
