Really enjoyed the walk with Ray and his two assistant's. Ray was so friendly, knowledgable and approachable. I will look to join another Woodlore course in the future.

What a wonderful day, after having waited so long to be able book I had no idea what would be in store. From the off, Ray and the team were engaging and friendly, obviously hugely knowledgeable about bushcraft but it went beyond that with fascinating historical facts, stories and anecdotes. The setting is beautiful and largely unspoilt, the perfect place to learn new things from a renowned expert....however, it felt as natural as having a nice chat with a lovely bloke!

Can''t begin to say how much I enjoyed this experience. Ray, Tom and Rob were full of constant knowledge, interesting and entertaining stories and I learned a great deal. As a Scout leader I was delighted when Ray gave me the Scout handshake at the end of the day, just underlining his genuine interest in his clients and what an all round good guy he is. This will be a day long remembered by me and I will certainly be hoping to get on another course in the future.

‘They� say, don�t meet your heroes - well, Ray Mears - is truly the exception to that rule. Words can�t really describe what I learnt, the profound experience, what a difference a day makes... Just in the simplest of terms - the natural world and our ancestors run through us so much more deeply than I previously could have ever imagined. Also, that knowledge can be imparted by just being, just being in someone�s presence. 20 years of watching his incredible shows and he is still, one of my greatest heroes! Being lead through ancient woodland - and seeing it through Ray�s eyes - is simply something otherworldly!!

What a fantastic day. Completely unexpected walk through private land.
Ray is enthralling, his stories and background information is a joy to listen to.
I particularly loved his down to earth personality and wasn�t afraid to talk, even at the end of the day. Seriously want to go again. Thank you Ray and the team, hope to see you again someday.

I had such a magical day. Ray has a staggering repository of knowledge spanning woodlore, history, pre history, cuisine and ecology all delivered with a master story tellers skills.
The surprise was how peaceful the experience left me. I cannot recommend the experience enough: and would love to return for a week. Sublime. Thanks to Ray and his lovely team.

Really can�t believe just how good the Walk in the Woods with Ray was. The whole day was fantastic, the Woodlore team accompanying Ray deserve a mention for being on hand all day, thanks guys.
Ray was brilliant, never talking down to anyone, always friendly and answered every question. His love of nature (especially trees) shines through and is seriously a life changer. Rather than just walking through the woods I now will spend more time enjoying my surroundings. Was it worth the money? Yes, definitely, I would love to do it all again but at a different time of year.

What a great day out with Ray and the rest of the group. Informative and inspirational, it was a privilege to spend a day out in the woods with Ray and have the ability to listen, ask and tap into some of the knowledge, skills and perspective that he brings to nature and how we fit into it. Would love to do it again and highly recommend it!

My wife purchased this experience for me as a present. My favorite pastime is walking, whether it be in the mountains, fells, woods or coastline, both in the UK and abroad. Knowing that I have watched and enjoyed Ray''s programs for many years, she chose this as a surprise.
The walk was over a few miles in the Weald near Tunbridge Wells. Ray led the group through fields and woodland stopping frequently to explain the history and geography of the Weald and point out the local flora and fauna.. Ray explained to us which flora was edible and/or suitable for medicinal uses and how much of it was in use before modern medicine.
The whole day was very interesting and Ray and his two accomplices were very good at their craft.
My one concern was about lighting a fire. In the New Forest and Dorset heathlands near to where I have lived for the last forty years, there have been many devastating fires . My worries however were entirely unnecessary. Before we left the area in which Ray demonstrated some of his fire-lighting skills, we were shown how not only to ensure that the fire was properly extinguished, but how to leave no trace that a fire had ever been in that area.
The following day I bought one of Ray''s books and intend to purchase some of the fire-lighting implements to practice the skills demonstrated and increase my knowledge of the countryside through which I regularly walk.
A first class experience for anyone interested in the countryside and the environment in which we live.

A walk around, and through, a private woodland with Ray is everything you�d hope it is. Ray tells the attendees a bit of the history of the land, about the trees and plants that grow there and how we can use them. There�s a little bit of munching on greenery as we walk around! We made fires, well, had varying success in making fires, even with the expert tuition! and then covered all traces before moving on. The walk doesn�t go far in distance, but is uppy-downy and may be muddy, rainy and even boiling hot (we had all three!) The best is walking with Ray, listening to his stories and to how he sees the landscape. Truly a special day and one I�ll always treasure.

I so enjoyed my day. I learnt loads, including learning how much I didn�t know! Ray wore his knowledge lightly and I had a great time. He made the firelighting look much easier than I found it to be! A really recommend this as a short taster. And the sun shone!!

Ray and his team were brilliant. The whole day was fantastic, I was continuously learning and Ray�s stories were absolutely fascinating. The whole team were so knowledgable and capable. I highly recommend this day. Thank you Woodlore Team!

The perfect gift!

Spending the day with Ray and a group of like-minded individuals, was an extraordinary experience that I will fondly remember for a long time.

Ray was an exceptional guide, filled with knowledge of how our ancestors would have used the natural environment around us.

Alongside his Woodlore colleagues Callum and James, Ray described and demonstrated how each tree and plant has a use in nutrition, medicine, or survival situations, which he paired with fascinating stories and anecdotes along the way.

I found the fire-lighting tutorial particularly enjoyable as it is something I have struggled to master over the years with my fire steels. Of course, equal importance was placed on teaching us how to ensure we left no trace of fire when we had finished.

What surprised me most about the experience, was seeing the forest from Ray�s perspective when tracking, he makes incredible observations about animal activity that unless highly trained, you simply would not see.

We probably could have walked through the landscape for a week and not exhausted Ray�s extensive wisdom, it was easy to see his passion for the natural world and going forward it has inspired me to invest more time into developing my own knowledge and skills.

The opportunity to experience such a day with a master of his craft was truly invaluable and I would encourage anyone who has an interest in either the natural world or bushcraft to attend a ‘Walk in the Woods� with Ray.

I attended the Walk in the Woods with Ray Mears in 2020, during a terrible year for everyone. The fact Woodlore managed to arrange the day was fantastic, the team made sure all covid rules were met brilliantly. The day itself was a remarkable day in my life that I will remember forever. Having followed Ray Mears since I can remember to finally have met him was fantastic. On the course Ray really did help us to see the natural world the way he sees it. His passion was infectious. It really did ignite something inside me to keep learning and building on my limited knowledge.

His knowledge is nothing short of remarkable around every tree and every turn there was a story or something to learn. Showing us how to make fire at lunch we sat around listening to his thoughts on King William 2nds ill fated hunting trip in the New Forest, before showing us the correct way to dispose of our fires and leave as if no-one ever sat under that beech tree. The whole day was fantastic and one of the best days of my life, I hope to do some more course with Woodlore and possibly Ray Mears, cannot recommend Woodlore enough.

Absolutely superb day. It has been a year unlike any other but Ray and his team were fantastic.

What a privilege it was to spend the day with Ray in the woods. A true master of the wild his passion for natural history and the outdoors is infectious. Ray was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, happy to answer any questions or talk over points with the group. Ray spoke at length about Flora and Fauna, archeology and history plus a whole host of other subjects, it was fascinating to hear his stories and hear him share his knowledge. We really got a sense of what it was like to look at the forest through his eyes. A big thanks to Ray and his team for making it an amazing day that I�ll never forget.

A brilliant day indeed. It was great meeting all the other like minded people on the course as well. To be able to follow Ray for the day through the woods was incredible, hearing about all the plants and trees etc, and the history of us as humans. I was lucky enough to join the woodland walk with Ray, David and James last Sunday (June 2).
I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to the team for creating an amazing experience that has had a profound impact. I consider myself an ''outdoor'' person, walking for at least 3 hours each day with my dogs, and choosing to holiday annually in Northern Saskatchewan in February volunteering at mid distance dog sledding races. My own ancestry is farming stock, and I feel pretty rooted in the outside world. It was only after walking and learning from Ray and the team at the weekend that I realised just how ''disconnected'' I had become from the outdoors in reality. Constrained by technology and busy working conditions it was a joy to reawaken what I had forgotten about. Ok, it took me the longest to light the fire (cack-handed is me at best!) and I didn''t quite navigate correctly but my spirit was restored and I have reflected, and continue to reflect on ''reconnecting''. So... fire lighting stick, compass, tree ID book all ordered, mobile phone turned off, and a flicker of excitement returns! I have much to re-learn and to learn, but how exciting, and how unexpected. I am sure Ray is far too busy to read all these emails, but please do pass my sincere and deepest thanks on if you have a chance. I wish you and the team every success in sharing such important human messages with as many people as possible. I am an advocate, and will continue to learn, discuss and share the stories.

Walk in the woods - July 2018.
This was a Christmas prezzie from my wonderful Mrs. and possibly the best one I''ve ever had.
It doesn''t seem to matter, whatever your outdoors background or level of wilderness experience is you''ll be made to feel welcomed by Ray Mears.
Even if (like I did) you give wrong answers to basic navigational questions then Ray won''t make you feel daft. Ray has such a relaxed persona and he clearly really enjoys imparting his huge wilderness knowledge and wisdom in a fun way that doesn''t make you feel silly.
Our group seemed to be a mixed bag, some in sandals & satchels with others in full military garb and rucksacks, but there is something for everyone on this walk around the forest with Ray, he''s really approachable and has a real passion that isn''t too in your face or evangelical. For sure you''ll see things differently the next time you are out and about walking in the woods. Really great day out and genuinely good value for your hard earned money. I can''t wait for my next experience with Ray Mears.
Getting to start a fire with birch bark and twigs will be my "party piece" for years to come, Ray shows you how simple this can be and lets you get on with it - he''s a great teacher.

My journey to the woods began on Christmas morning with a gift from my wife....and what a great gift! Thanks to Keith, Ruth and Ray for a brilliant day. The time flew by, of course, but the hours were jammed (but never in a hurried way) with so many diverse subjects including....preparing for a day out in the woods...the characteristics of deer fewmets...birch bark preparation for fire lighting....which spirit burner to choose....the signs of ancient woodland...ground appreciation and the arrow tips fired at Crécy and Agincourt! The team are not only passionate about getting out into the woods as often as we can but taking our children out there too.....(my nine year old twins are already begging me for a bow)! Thanks again Keith, Ruth and Ray for such a memorable day. As a footnote...as a paramedic I was with a patient the following day who was receiving a lecture from his neighbour ....this house is full of bad air..you need to get out to the trees...they are full of good air ".....seems I''ve heard that recently somewhere else!"

An absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The Woodlore team were excellent as expected in the purchase and administration of the course. The day itself with Ray was everything and more, a truly informative and enjoyable day. He was as interesting and personable as he appears on television. A truly great day with so much crammed in. I implore anyone who has the even the slightest interest in bushcraft and the natural world take this course and enjoy tuition and insights from the world authority on the subject. From beginning to end it was an informative and educational day.
I''ve had the privilege of attending some of Mr Mears talks at venues around the country and seen him on the TV. This does not prepare you for the quiet, genuine, well read, knowledgeable and unassuming person that he is.

An incredible day in the company of Ray! A wonderful balance of bushcraft skills, nature and history. Pleasantly surprised to be involved in some practical activities too. I�ve done fieldwork in UK & abroad so have some experience of the outdoors but this day would be suitable for anyone, regardless of existing knowledge – the natural world and bushcraft skills are life-long learning. Ray is gifted in imparting his outstanding knowledge in an authoritative but accessible and relaxed way. Thank you too to Keith and Nick for coaching and advice. Too often been disappointed with meeting those one admires for their knowledge and achievements but Ray is approachable and grounded - a rare quality in those at the pinnacle of their field. An experience that will be treasured. Hopefully a skills course next.
